Power distribution: Ghana, Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau

The indicator graphed below measures the extent to which wealth and income are translated into political power in Ghana, Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau. It is interesting to note that although Nigeria is performing comparatively better on this indicator in the first half of the 20th century, in the last 30 years it scores lower than both Ghana and Guinea-Bissau. Nevertheless, with the exception of Ghana for certain periods, especially during the period 1960-1965 when the scores for this indicator are higher, the graph indicates that wealthy people have a very strong hold on political power in the three West-African countries during the whole period graphed.
