The V-Dem Institute released a new interactive mapping tool allowing to explore V-Dem data in a form of a color-coded map! This week’s map depicts the V-Dem Executive corruption index in 2017 from the global perspective. The index shows how routinely members of the executive, or their agents grant favours in exchange for bribes, kickbacks, or other material inducements, and how often they steal, embezzle, or misappropriate public funds or other state resources for personal or family use. The darker shading indicate higher levels of corruption.

According to our data, the countries with the lowest levels of executive corruption are Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Estonia, Australia, and New Zealand. In contrast Cambodia, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Venezuela, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Cameroon, and Syria have extremely high levels of executive corruption.
