By utilizing novel sequencing methods, this tool shows sequencing relationships between indicators in a selected category with a comparison between country vs. region.
Generating a Table
Step 1: Select a country or a region. Step 2: Select a comparison region. Step 3: Select a comparison category.
Interpreting Tables
For this tool, V-Dem has specifically constructed so-called dependency tables, which indicate how indicators have developed in relation to each other. For that purpose, we have identified the lowest value of each indicator in a selected category, which has been reached historically (1900-2017) in virtually all countries before the highest value of the variable in question was reached. The sum of these minimum values is called contingency conditions.
Interpreting Tables
A low number of contingency conditions for a variable indicates that it assumed its highest level before much progress in other aspects has been made. Conversely, a high number of dependencies for a variable indicate that it cannot fully develop before many other variables have reached high levels.
Interpreting Tables
Indicator – includes a list of all indicators listed under the selected category. Press on the indicator’s name to learn more about it. # of Contingencies – displays a minimum number of contingencies needed to get to a maximum. #of Met – shows the current number of contingencies reached for that country indicator in 2017. Current Value in Country – displays the current score of an indicator on the “original scale” in 2017. To view scales of an indicator, please click on the indicator.
