The ERT dataset identifies episodes of democratization (liberalizing autocracy, democratic deepening) and autocratization (democratic regression, autocratic regression) in the most recent V-Dem dataset. For further details see Maerz et al (2021), Lührmann and Lindberg (2019), Boese et al. (2021) or Wilson et al. (2020) and the ERT codebook.
There are two ways to download and work with the ERT dataset.
We provide an R package to load, explore, and work with the ERT dataset here.
For non-R users we also provide the ERT dataset here as a csv. file. However, we recommend loading the ERT dataset via the R package since one huge advantage of the package is that it allows to flexibly set parameters for generating the episodes.
